Grandparents adopting Grandchildren

Where to start?
My wife of 41 years and I have had legal custody of our two grandchildren since birth, one is 10 the other is 11. We have been their sole support, financially, spiritually, mentally, lovingly and rasied them as our own. We have discussed adopting them with their bmother and Bfather, our son, and their other grandparents. All have given their blessings, we are doing it for legal reasons, one reason is to get them covered on our insurance and off the SS role book.
If anyone can help us get the adoption process started please post your suggestions...do's and don't, where to start, etc.

Thanks to all!
God Bless!

As a child protection worker I have worked with grandparents who have been in the same situation as you find yourselves in. I would suggest contacting an attorney who is aware of family law or child protection/juvenile law. THere are forms (in our state) that the birth parents can sign to designate you as there choice to adopt these children. Unfortunately not all attorneys are familar with these processes so that will be the key - finding the right attorney.

Good luck to you and good wishes for your family.
