Step parent adoption in TX ? Newbie with ?s
I had my 14 yr old son when i was 16 . His BF bolted when i told him i was pregnant. Did not sign the Birth certificate, never saw him , never paid child support (nor did i ever file on him) My son's BF died about 6 1/2 yrs ago , right before I married. I have been married for 6 yrs and now have a 5 yr old son (from my husband lol) . My husband has been wanting to adopt my oldest son basically since day one . But we always thought it was too expensive and would be too complicated with his BF being dead . We were also afraid that the BF's parents might surface and try to get visitiation or something ? After finding this site by accident, I might just have some hope after reading some of the emails. Would it be more difficult to do a step parent adoption since his BF is deceased or maybe easier than I thought ? how much does it cost . I guess Where do i start ?
Thanks for your help Mindy |

I do not know the laws in your state but it should definitely be easy for your DH to adopt your Son. After all there is no BF to fight with. The grandparents don't really have much as far as rights are concerned unless they had been in contact this whole time. If not then you should not have to notify them or anything.
Like I said I don't know the laws in T.X. but you should have an easy case. You can usually get your questions answered by calling your local family law office and they might have the forms you need. We talked to an attorney and ultimately highered him because our case is way more complicated. But I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to do this on your own. Also a paralegal is a good form of cheap advice. Wish I was more help but good luck and keep us posted. |
