step-parent adoption
How do I get started?
Can this be done without hiring a lawyer? I am new to this site , any feed back will be great. harris county texas

I don't know the laws in Texas. I'm from Missouri. But we had to hire a lawyer to draw up the papers and go to court with us and legal stuff like that. The hardest part is getting the bparent to sign away their rights. After that, you just go to court and the judge signs the papers. It's pretty easy and not that expensive at all. Hope this helps some.

you need an attorney to be sure everything is legal and to be sure all the t's are crossed and all the i's are dotted. if you dont make this legal the birthparent can come back and reclaim thier rights. you need to see if the birthparent will sign away their rights.
