Contempt charges possible after adoption goes through
Do you know if they will still file contempt of court charges on past due child support even after the step parent adoption goes through for the amount they owe, the bio owes over 16,000 , but I am not sure if they will even push enforcing the past amount she owes if the we do the adoption?

I know that in my case (this was Utah) - just as I was completing the adoption, the State decided that they would no longer go after back child support when an adoption is completed. So, we have to get a civil judgement and go after my wife's ex through normal channels.
So, check your specific state's laws. Contempt MAY not be possible if the support is no longer active because of an adoption, but collection may still be a possibility. Tim |

Not sure what state you're in, but I'm in California and my husband just adopted my children. The BF owes a couple thousand in back support and they are still collecting that and issuing it to me.
Good luck! |
