If biodad has already terminated his rights through the judiciary system, a step-parent adoption should be pretty simple. Your first stop should be your law library. They usually have fill-in-the-blank forms you can fill out and file that they sell for a couple dollars. You might also need to obtain criminal background checks and a homestudy, which you will have to arrange. For the background check, your local or county police department will most likely have the proper form. For the homestudy, you can easily find a person who is qualified and schedule a convenient time.

Best wishes to you and the little one! (Who probably isn't so little anymore!!)

Most stepparent adoptions do not require a homestudy or a background check as the child and parent to be have been cohabitating under the same roof for usually several years. Getting the TPR is the hard part, and you already have that! Call your Clerk of Courts and ask what forms you need to file for a stepparent adoption, you may be able to do the entire process without a lawyer depending on your local laws, that is something you will also have to ask the clerk. You can get more information about stepparent adoption at http://stepparent.adoptionblogs.com/
