Adoption Party Ideas

Hi there. My son's adoption by my husband will be final at the end of this month and we want to have a family/friends BBQ for him Labor Day weekend to celebrate.

Does anyone have any ideas for what we can do for the party (invitations, games, decorations, etc).

I really want to make this an extra special day for my son since my husband and I are expecting our first child together on September 12th (gotta curb those "jealousy" feelings, you know!).

Anyways, my son is 8 1/2 years old (only child for another 5 1/2 weeks!) and has known my husband since he was 15 months old though my husband didn't become a more permanent figure in his life until a few weeks after his 4th bday. Any ideas or suggestions you could give would be wonderful!

Thank you!

Skye

I think it would be best to let him choose decorations, theme, etc. You may want to make a list of party themes that you want him to choose from.I just think he would feel more important if he thought he had planned the big event.

I love the BIG BROTHER t shirts also.Maybe buy him one of those, and play up the big brother idea.Let him know that he is the most important figure in his little brother's life....My son said that his job in life is to help raise his adopted sisters.I thought that was so cute, but I knew then that I had accomplished helping him to feel so important!!!He still to this day helps with his siblings, and loves them to pieces.Never any jealousy......
I,too,am adopted by my father.I have a brother who is my dad's biological child. My father never showed any difference in the bond.He loves us equally as your husband will too....Iam sure!!
