Question Stepdad want to Adopt lil' bro, please help!

Hello I am new to this forum and have a question if someone can please help me.

My stepdad is wanting to adopt my 17yr old brother. My mom has left my brother w/my stepdad while she persues yet another relationship.

She has full custody of my brother. My father is not really in the picure, just holidays mainly. I was wondering what it would take for my SD to be able to adopt him. He is on disability because of a brain tumor but has been cancer free for many years. He and my brother do not have a lot of money b/c my mom and father have basically ditched my lil brother and refused to support him. So basically what would be the best way to go about this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My brother wants this just as much as my SD, and my SD deserves it b/c he has been the best father figure my brother has ever had.

Thank You very Much

J

Well, either both parents would have to consent or if your mom and step dad are still married, he can do a stepparent adoption…although I suspect that would be hard to pull off, given that your mom has moved on.

My suggestion: Your brother is almost at the age of consent (18) and if he waits until he is 18, your step dad can do an adult adoption without the consent of the bio parents…and usually a whole TON less in fees.
