My husband wants to adopt my daughter. We would like to do it ourselves, and I have read many encouraging stories on here. I have found the site for all the paperwork and everything to file. BUT her biological father lives in TX and I live in FL. Can I use the same paperwork and consent forms and such since he lives in a different state? Pllllease help!!

I'm going to have to do some more research. The site that I had saved that showed the grounds required per state for a TPR seems to either be down at the moment or no longer exsists.
How long have you lived in Florida? Have you lived long enough to establish residency? If so then since that is where you will be filing those papers are what the court will require and not reconize another state's papers. I haven't read a lot of the stories here as of yet so I'm not sure if many will disagree with me but I just don't suggest doing this all alone. It might not be too bad if you have the paperwork and bio dad signs it but you really should AT THE VERY LEAST get a consultation to have a lawyer look over them for you before filing. With cases like this you need to make sure every I is dotted and T is crossed. You will need to know if Florida requires a home study by the welfare department also. Susan |
