Step parent adoption in OK

Has anyone done this in OK? My sons bio dad has seen him once in the last year. Recently, at Christmastime. So there goes the abandonment. He is behind 11K in child support and hasnt paid a penny in over two years.

Can my husband adopt my son without the bios permission since he hasnt paid anything?

If he would consent to the adoption, would the state release him of all child support money he owes?

I dont care about the money, I just want my son to have a father. The same father he has had for the last 7 years. My husband.

Thanks

Still abandoment if he has only seen him once. We are going to do the termination an because of abandoment, the law under adoption.com says that its still abandoment if he doesnt see them regularly or pay support.

To add you need to check the laws in OK as far as that goes. Some states require that there is no contact for 6 months, some say a year. Some states require there also not be support for that period of time (which you qualify for). Some required that both these occur where others only require it to be either /or.

Now, if he consents or not and the adoption is granted all current support stops. However, arrears are still owed. You can 'forgive' any arrears owed to you if you'd like to give an incentive but if you've ever received state aide you can not forgive what is owed to them.
