Cost of step-parent adoption?

Just a curious question about costs of step-parent adoptions. I know it depends on cooperation of the NCP, and in our case, he will fight it to "save face" but none the less, he will fight it. He doesn't have any money to get a lawyer (or he better not since DD gets NO support and never has) so that may deter him from fighting.

Just a curious question. The cost will not deter us from taking this step, but it is nice to get a glimpse.

Thanks in advance!

For us, it was super cheap. Maybe not more than about $250?

Because of the circumstances in my case, it cost me 5000 dollars. It was worth every penny!

we filed pro se, and hunted down all of our own paperwork, in total it cost under 200, but took quite an effort to find all the proper paperwork. was well worth it though!!! good luck

Our cost is at just over $4500.00 and we haven't even won yet, we proposed a settlement 3 months ago which the birth father has not followed through with yet, we cannot even get him to sign the court order. we hope to refile soon which will probably cost about the same and we aren't even guaranteed to win. the bf probably sits back and laughs at how much money we have to spend, it is all a game to him, but to me my son is worth every penny of it!!

For uncontested and depending which state, you can do it for under $1000. In CA, the social worker study alone was $700. But if contested, like mine, it will easily go beyond $5000. I haven't gotten to trial yet and it's already close to $10K.

In GA, it was $800 but I did some of the things myself. I also had just paid attorney $2500 for a custody hearing two days before she decided to surrender her rights!

We were uncontested, so ours may be under the norm.
