Biological Father Out of Lives for 9 years

He is nine years old now. My husband of 7 years would like to adopt my children. We contacted a lawyer before but his price range was very expensive for us. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Most States have an Abandoment statutes that range generally at 3 years. Do you have proof of anything? Check out the Laws for Maryland. You may have to put an Ad of Public Notice in Local Newspaper for 30 days searching for him. If he does not show up you have reciept of attempt. This was advice from a lawyer I had a few years ago. But the father turned up with out the paper and signed termination of parental rights. Which the petition your current husband will need to be doing before you put the ad in. It is a petition to adopt the child(ren) There are many aids to do it your self but it is difficult to do. I believe your Court in the local area would have the papers for this transaction.
