Step parent adoption

I was able to pick up the adoption papers myself at the Probate court within my local court. As far as I can tell, filing these type of court-provided papers for adoption does not require a lawyer -- it's when the adoption is contested that you would need one. The court has standard adoption papers available, why not pick them up and take a look at them -- if you have any questions, a short consultation with a lawyer might be another option as well. In my case, after my ex signed the papers, I did have an attorney to be the "go between" for us. We went in the courtroom and when our number was called, he brought us and the children in his chambers and asked them a couple of questions and signed the papers. If you're trying to bypass an attorney, I would call your Chancery Clerk and maybe they could tell you.

Generally the paper work is based out of the state in which the Child resides and has resided with the natural parent. I had a identical situation as far as it not being the same state. It is not difficult as long as you know he (bio-father) will sign and you know the address of where he is located.

My boyfriend has been Devin's father since he was 18 months old, actively taking part in his life. Devin calls him Daddy, because to him that is his daddy. I don't know when or if we will ever be married, and I really don't project any support coming in the future.

The attorneys I've called are more worried about the money. Why is this so difficult my daughter is 3yrs. and my spouse is the only daddy she knows her bio-father never wanted her and I've been with my spouse since she was 3months does this make a difference?
