Question I am a step child. I want step-parent adoption from Indiana annulled

My mother married a man when I was a small child. He began a step-parent adoption proceeding, had a child with my mother right after that, then divorced her, took the baby he had with her and placed it with his parents to raise and had me and my brother placed in a children's home. After my mom divorced him, my father came back into our lives as an active parent. I have looked for the man that adopted me and my brother for 30 some years and finally found him. He is not, has not been or is ever going to be a parent to me or my brother. All I want is for our birthright name to be reinstated to it's original position, as it was when we kids were born. The man that adopted me and my brother swears he didn't complete the adoption and doesn't have a problem with the annullment, as long as he doesn't have to pay for it... both my biological parents are dead now and the man who's name is on my birth certificate is not my father and is ill now, himself...PLEASE HELP ME........ Renea

I think if the adoption went through and your ex-stepfather is considered your adoptive father by law that your biological father is going to have to turn around and adopt you now. I have never heard of anyway to terminate an adoption.

Hi,

I am not sure about the actual adoption annulment, however if you just want to change your last name, that is easy. You just get a lawyer and pay $200-$300 and they will change it for you. It doesn't change your father's name on your birth certificate, but it changes your last name. I beleive as an adult, you can be adopted again legally but the people would have to be alive and I beleive you said they are both dead.

Sorry I am not more help!
