husband wants to adopte son-uncontested-unknown father
I am very frustrated. I live in Nevada and two out of two adoption attorneys were very uncooperative with me.
Why am I being charged $100/30 min. just to find out a price range for a simple name change? I am married. Have never been before. My son has "unknown" on his birth certificate and has never had or known a father. Why is he unable to have my new name, my future children's name, and my husband's name; who he calls Daddy? We want to have more children and I am pregnant now. They will have our name. My son will forever be signaled out and never feel like a part of "our family" because his name isn't the same as our family name. He wants to write "Yurik" on his papers in school instead of his legal name name, but is not allowed. There is no one contesting this adoption and he has no father. Why are we hurting our children over purely pecuniary issues? No one is contesting this adoption. Why do I have to pay $1500+ dollars for my son to have my last name and so my husband can legally write father instead of stepfather on his school papers and other legalities. Who can I write to to stop this ridiculous insanity? This must mean that poor families will never have that hole in their heart filled. Unbelieveable. Please help me help my son be a legal part of our family. Mikey wants to have Mommy and Daddy's last name |

You have to go through all that because nobody (except you) knows if the child's biological father is still out there or not, wanting to know his child.
Even if all that you say is true, nobody can prove that without all the legal procedures that you are running into now. Examining legal papers from then - like the child's original birth certificate, advertising for the "absent" father, closing all legal loopholes so the father doesn't appear some day and claim his rights were violated. Even legitimate cases of when the birthfather is unknown have to go through all the steps. ALL children have biological fathers. Not listing a name on a birth certificate doesn't end that man's rights. Not knowing about the name change doesn't end that man's rights to object to it. But... not being around for X number of years, not paying child support, etc... can end those rights. And that's where all the money comes in. A good faith effort to locate him and close all legal loopholes must be made, and that costs money. Good luck! |

Have had any luck. I have some suggestions if you are still trying to do this. Good luck. Sharon

Same situation
My daughter-in-law and son are going through this exact situation in Idaho. Any advice given, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
