some good news some bad

I am not getting my boys. I found out today that the 7 and 8 year olds I was selected to adopt have had a petition filed by a friend of their grandfather's to adopt them. I am a little sad about the whole thing, but I am glad it happend now instead of ten months into placement. We were supposed to start visits next month. Apparently in that state I could have fought it, but if some one is willing to fight for them already, why should I stand in the way.

On our homefront, Mike's 3 year review was held Monday. For school IEP stuff, at my request. I was able to get them to change his dx to other health impaired from mental retardation. I am happy about that. He will be homeschooled for at least the rest of this year.

I also found out that my new homestudy is typed and waiting for the signature of that agencies supervisor. So, we may be getting some where after all. I guess I'll go in Va's AREVA waiting families book and wait.

I guess it really is all in God's hands.

Areva Book.

Congrats on getting all signed off.

As for the Areva book good luck. It was updated the beginning of this month.. They put August and Spetember of 2002 in the book.

You can also try looking on line at but they have been updated about the same.

We are in the First Colonial HS district. Our children will attend Kings Grant. Although by the time they are HS aged we plan to move into a little better district.

schools and DSS

Actually FC is supposed to be like the 2nd best high school in our area. Kings Grant and Lynnhaven Middle are not on the bad list either. I used to teach at Green Run High, now that is another story. We are currently in the Providence, Kempsville, Kempsville District and they are okay and average, but not good for special need kids. My girls are going to the elem. school beside the middle school where I teach. They are not considered the best either, but have a lot of military and do a better job meeting our needs.

Have you ever written the local DSS and sent them a cover letter of your family? They really have kids and place most that way. I am not on their good side due to an foster/adopt placement 2 years ago because I did not follow their program.

Is your family registered with the waiting families AREVA book? They have a big push at United Methodist to do this and honestly I would rather not have my family in it

I am going to register on AdptUsKids and the NC list.

Hi

We are going to try and get into the Kempsville High district or Princess Anne when the kids are that old.

We have had our homestudy sent to VBSS and were told they had no children that matched with us and that they will keep it on file. I am not holding my breath though.

We are registered with AREVA, NC, Adoptuskids and are looking at other options. I did get a call today from a worker who had a child to place who matched us using adoptuskids so who knows.

Good luck,

Angel

It's the kind of funny that makes you want to bang your head against the wall

I won't hold my breath with VBDSS either I guess.
I still have a few fp friends. Most foster kids are going up for adoption since the new 14 month rule. Like I have said a hundred times before they place so weird around here. There are kids but I guess they know so much more then any one else and it is after all so healthy for a child to live 4-5 years in foster care. You can't find out who is up to know when to put in for them. They don't seem to ever look in their files to see what homestudies they have. At least in KC, MO I have always been given exact team meeting dates, to know if we are going to team, called the day of the meeting to see if I was the selected family of not, given phone numbers and e-mail address to contact them and the kids 1st year adoption sub is the same as what ever their fc rate was and they give day care and respite.
I am also not looking forward to the 10-18 month time they take to process and adoption since it is still technically the law in this state that any one can contest the adoption 6months after finalization.
