foster adoption and the effect on other children

Our youngest deals with an anxiety issue and we would like to know if anyone else has been thru this process. Is it possible to adopt without being a foster family? We have just started talking about it and have not me with any social workers yet. We are in South Santa Clara County. Another question: we homeschool currently and wondered if that is a detriment to adoption. Thanks so much! Nancy
