Thumbs up Please do it!

Families with ds children are the best qualified to adopt ds kids. Search the net to find your child, or simply get a good adoption agency to search for you. One of my sons has spina bifida which is not the same but still...

Children with Down syndrome

I don't know much about agencies specifically for adoption of children with Downs - but would encourage you to develop a brief letter and send it many agencies in your area.

Chloe is absolutely beautiful. Have you seen the calendar "Beautiful Faces" - she belongs on there. It's all of children with Down syndrome, just doing normal kid stuff. I absolutely love the calendar. Many agencies sell them as fundraisers. I get mine every year from the League for the Handicapped in Springville, NY.

I would encourage you to consider the supports of the HCBS waiver, or Medicaid service coordination. There are many supports available for families of children with developmental disabilites. In some states it can take years from application to services. In NY, where I work as a MSC, we have great supports to offer families.

Best wishes, DimasMom

Baby girl with Ds available now

I received this info this week....Good luck!

Seeking adoptive parent profiles for a baby girl with Down Syndrome.

Birthdate- 10-8-02, apgars 8,8 she weighed 3005 grams at
birth and currently weighs 6 lbs, 9 oz. She does have a heart
murmur. She will be seeing the cardiologist on 10/31.

She is fully Guatemalan. The BF would like no involvement but the birthmom
wants a fully open adoption relationship. Full disclosure of names,
#s, etc...and of course visits, if possible.

Families with current approved home studies, ready dear birth parent
letters and photos will be considered. Must be open to an open
adoption and understand the needs and care of a child with Down
Syndrome.

DS associations

Hello there! My husband and I want to adopt a child with DS, we are currently child free, and just beginning the adoption process. My first stop for information was our local DW association. We live in Cincinnati, Ohio, so it's the DS Association of Greater Cincinnati. They offer adoption services, which have been a great help to us. See if there's an association by where you live. I wish you luck! And by the way, your daughter is soooo cute!

Here are a few links that I have discovered in my research:

http://www.dsagc.com/ Provides connections to families who are interested in adopting a child with agencies who have custody of a child with Down syndrome or birth families who are looking at adoption as a choice.

I talked to them today and was told that they have several calls a week from birthparents who want to place their DS infant.

http://www.chask.org/

http://adoptaspecialkid.org/

http://www.aaapia.org/dare_to_love.htm This program does adoptions of special needs infants at NO COST to the adoptive family.

Hope this helps.

child with down syndrom

Hi!

Your daughter is absolutely beautiful! I am probably going to repeat some of the other's replies, but......We just adopted a beautiful baby girl with down syndrome 10 weeks ago! (it is not final until we do our 6 months of follow up with our social worker). But, I sent out a bunch of letters to adoption agencies in our state letting them know that we wanted to adopt a baby with down syndrome. Also, I was able to work with Robin Steele from the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati. She is a wonderful person and very helpful. She is not an adoption agency, but more of a match maker. She has started a waiting list of families who want to adopt a child with down syndrome. Agencies from all over the country call her to find families if they are looking to place a child with down syndrome. I would highly reccommend talking to Robin. The number for the Down Syndrome Association for Greater Cincinnati is (513)761-5400, and they could put you in touch with Robin. She does work with families all over the country!

I hope this is helpful, and I wish you the best on your journey.
Sincerely, Stacey
