Hello,
After 15 years our daughter who has had about 7 different diagnoses including bipolar disorder, ADD, ADHD, Aperger's, ODD, OCD, etc was placed in residential treatment. The program is really wonderful. We got to a point where we simply could not restrain her when she became angry and in spite of years of therapy from all kinds of people, she never seems to get any better...her behavior seems to go in cycles. She also is way behind developmentally and borderline MR. Anyone else deal with similar problems/issues? Birthmom is in a mental hospital but we have no diagnosis on her. thanks! |

how old is your DD? And what age was she when she came to you?
Are you planning on her eventual return home? Or is this a longterm solution? I know how hard it can be to come to the realization that, as the parent, you can no longer care for your child. I hope you are taking care of yourself. Fondly,

Hi Louise and thanks for your response,
Our adoption was from infancy...she is the third child and the others have been fabulous but our daughter was problematic even as a baby/toddler...very sensitive to light and had multiple other physical problems...We are not sure about the future and are hoping she is able to stay in this program but unfortunately this depends on Childrens Mental Health..birthmother was sent to prison for same kinds of behavior...could not make it in prison and was placed in a state mental hospital to serve her time...unfortunately our DD is very similar to birthmom in inability to control behavior and we do not see any improvement...we only want her to stay safe and the residential program seems equipped to do this. Our main concern now is how we can keep her in this program. thanks again! |
