we got good news today
Hi everyone,
As most of you know my state refuses to let me use my homestudy out of state without buying it first. I have now worked out an agreement with my agency that they will be paid upon finalization of our adoption either by a Purchase of Service agreement or throught the military reimbursement program. So, that means I can work with any state. Ok guys, which states should I avoid and which were a delight to work with? Angel |

Do not deal with Indiana. Very difficult. We had an adoptive placement for 16 months. The oldest did not want to be adopted. They tried to force the issue and each time she got worse to deal with. We wanted to adopt the 10 and 12 yr. old, but they would not let us. They wanted them all 3 to be together, so they were moved. As I read some of the posts that are coming of older children and the problems I am glad now that we did not get to keep them. We tried for 10 years in Indiana to adopt. We were told then we were too old. I would have had the children raised by now. We are not the only ones that have had problems with Indiana. There used to be alot of us on the board that had problems with Indiana. One time there was a ranking posted that told which states were ok. Indiana scored a D. Maybe someone remembers where to access this site again.

How did you work out that agreement? Who did you approach? I'm in the same predicament.

Our situation is a little different Sherry
My dh is in the military and we get reimbursed 2K towards adoption expenses upon finalization. All the agency was worried about was getting there money and wanted a contract from us signed saying they would get it. So, we will look at other states willing to do a Purchase of Service Agreement and pay the agency that way or have them reimbursed through the military in which we will have to make up the differences cause that money will be taxed. I would like to work instate but I am just not having a lot of luck. Maybe you can sit down with your worker and work out a payment plan on your homestudy fee and that way when you finish paying for it you can use it out of state and get your money reimbursed through thee other state. I am not sure what else to suggest. All you can do is ask.
