Today was our day too for the social workers visit/meeting with us at our home and we are pleased to report it went well. We went through re-training this Summer and are in the process of being re-approved for placement following a disruption last Spring. Her major concern was the effect a new placement would have on a previous adopted child still in the home ... totally understandable! Hopefully we were able to relay our real feelings as a family and our commitment as a family to touch the life and hearts of children in need. Keep us in your prayers too and we'll keep you posted.

Thank goodness that's over. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was worrying about. They touched much longer on things that I didn't think mattered (such as how long it was between my parents homestudy and my adoption when I was adopted), and a lot less on things I thought might matter (the dynamics of my family now). Oh well, I guess that's why they are the professionals.

Their one concern seems to be the fact that this is a public agency, and we must foster before adoption. They know from all our info, and reference letters, that we would have trouble giving a child up at the end of a foster, so we feel we could only take into our home a child that they feel will have TPR. They understand that, and said that they would be sure to only refer a child to us that is coming into the system for the second time (which in NC, I guess, is the criteria for automatic TPR).

Well glad to hear that yours went well! Congratulations!

We are all on pins and needles as ours is Tuesday the 26th at 10:00! I am SO excited but at the same time SO anxious!!!

... how confident we all are on this road - determined in our belief and commitment ... until that home visit is scheduled and then we begin to clean every corner, dust every crumb and wonder if we're really as ok as we were yesterday ... ???? You are and all will be fine --- relax and enjoy your worker - she's (or he's) the first step of many along this road and keep posting - we keep saying it - but this board really helps ... especially when your partner is tired of talking about adoption and its the day that that is all you can think about.
