Did you know it's perfectly legal for your child's teacher
to lock them in a closet or physically restrain them? Special needs children are being abused all over this country by the people who are supposed to be educating them. This has got to stop. Please visit my blog to learn about the steps you can take to help make the Keeping All Students Safe Act S2020 a reality.
While there are times that children do require restraint, it should only be used when the student, a fellow student or staff member is in physical danger. One the child has been restrained and has been calmed the restraint must end. Children have died because of overzealous teachers, aids and therapists abusing the use of restraint.
Recently, a child with autism was shoved and secured inside a duffel bag. His offense? His teacher asked him to put a ball on a shelf and he threw it against a wall instead.
