Finally got our RAD diagnosis
We had to have a new eval done on dd 11. For the past three years they have told us that while she has RAD symptoms, she is too old to receive that diagnosis. We had a new doctor today, and she read the case file, did the eval, and was shocked that no one would give her the diagnosis before. So now her primary diagnosis is RAD, not sure what that will do for us as far as her services go, but I sure feel vindicated.

It's hard, but at the same time it feels good to put a name to it.

With the dx, you should be able to go back to dcfs and get your subsidy adjusted so that they pay for treatment/therapy for your child. Most attachment therapists that I know don't take state insurance and they charge around $100 an hour.

I know that's probably not great news, but at least now she can get the appropriate type of therapy. I know RAD is treated completely different than everything else, and maybe now people will quit looking at you like you're crazy when you tell them the things she does.

I recommend reading The Explosive Child by Ross Green. We implemented some of the stuff with J and it made a huge difference.
