how do your kids respond to adoption awareness month?
november is adoption awareness month. the only place we notice it as a family is church. our 2 older kids (one with RAD) don't seem to care it is adoption awareness month, as long as it doesn't point out that THEY are adopted. lol. otherwise they are very excited about other children finding families.
what about your children? do they seem to notice it is adoption awareness month, and if so, how do are they reacting? |

I haven't really said to the point "THIS is adoption awareness month" etc. but the other day I was telling Dh about Nia V. adopting from foster care and the kids were in the room. T said "Oh, that is so nice that the little girl has a family now!" and went back to his playing. It dawned on me that he really didn't equate himself in that same situation even though he was. Kind of got a chuckle out of that in a way.
I'll have to quiz the older ones a bit and see what they think. In a "round a bout way" ![]()

My kids don't really know - I don't think. At least they haven't mentioned it.

Mine don't really pay attention...
My boys really never say much if any story about adoption comes up. They do, however, want to see the movie about the young man who was homeless, taken in by a family, and ended up playing for the NFL. I think ti would be a good movie for them.
Since I got my sons as teenagers, adoption has always just been "out there". They obvuiously know they were adopted and understand why they ended up in care. Sometimes, we even joke about it. My two favorite lines are "My kids aren't homegrown, they're store-bought" or "Always remember, kid, I saved the reciept and can always exchange you." ![]()
