DD had another seizure this morning

She had her first seizure in August, but all the tests came back normal, so she was not put on medication. After the seizure, she could not remember yesterday. That was really scary! But, it got me thinking. Last year, she made the honor roll, and this year she is failing two classes. She tells me that she is trying her hardest, but she can't remember anything. Yesterday, in therapy, we dealt with her grades and study habits. Needless to say, she was very upset. She spent the rest of the evening asking what her English assignment was (She is in my English class). The assignment was to re-write a paragraph that had been previously written. She wanted to know what that meant. I asked what we talked about in English that day. She said, "I don't know." So, I explained it again. 15 minutes later, she asked what the English assignment was again, and again, and again, and again... DD is RAD, mostly healed, so I thought this was just her being a pill. By the end of the evening, I was pretty irritated. Now, the doctor says this was probably a precurser to the seizure. Doctor is hopeful that the medication will help with her memory problems. I feel terrible that perhaps her school problems have a medical cause, and she has been in trouble most the the year.

My other dd (her bio sister) did not acknowlege that anything was wrong. Even when I explained that we were taking sister to hospital and where she would be going after school, her only response was "cool". Of course she went to school and convinced her teacher that she couldn't concentrate or do any work today because she was so upset that her sister was in the hospital. They even called me to talk to her to calm her down. I told them that she was playing them, and amazingly, she was able to function the rest of the day without any problem.

Seizures are scary. What meds is she taking? Sometimes they can cause short term memory loss..specially Topamax...unfondly known as Dopamax. I hope you get some answers sooon.

I hope they find the meds she needs and that she doesn't have any more seizures. (...ever, ever again. I like to dream big. )

Ditto. Its actually very possible to get siezure free with today's meds. Not that we would know because I am pretty sure my DD is having dozens of absence seizures a day still. They can also do a 24 hour EEG in a hospital setting that would help you identify small seizures that are essentially the equivalent of "ctrl-alt-delete" on the brain.
