Not sure what it is????

My Nephew was adopted at birth... Did not sleep much as a baby hardly ever napped, up at night etc. He is now 5 and still is up all hours and is very restless sleeper. ALso for the past three years behavior is getting worse and worse. He is usually doing two or more things at once. He is very smart but is always thinking about what is coming next, He will tell you exactly what you said even when you think he is not paying attention. One thing we see is that he has NO FEAR of anything. also no thoughts of boundries, consiquneces, ( sp) etc. He is now 5 and it is just getting worse. Anyone have any idea of what this may be????

Lots of possibilities. The first one to check out would be add/adhd. Another thing would be to see if he was exposed in utero to alcohol or drugs.

I second the suggestion to see if he was drug exposed. The symptoms you are describing suggest some sort of brain difference. (ADD, for instance, is a brain difference.) When the brain is involved the overlap of symptoms is REALLY high. So Aspberger's (autism spectrum), ADD/ADHD, FASD (fetal alcohol spectrum disorders), prenatal drug exposure, processing disorders, sensory integration problems, etc. etc. etc. all have many areas of overlap.

My drug exposed kids have many of the symptoms you describe - but so do kids without drug exposure! It can be a genetic predisposition, or other factor that cause these behaviors. A neuro-psych eval could be helpful.

Thank the Lord that my son sleeps!

I need all the energy I can muster for the 14 hours a day he's not sleeping!

I agree with all the pp, especially Barksum, my son has brain injury, autism, spd and prenatal exposure... and he does all those things. Except (again) thank the LORD he sleeps.

I used to babysit for a baby who did not sleep. She was drug exposed.
