Still trying not to be an enabler
And failing? I just didn't see at the moment that I had a choice. I got a call from C tonight, first asking for all our new address/phone information. Why? To tell the police - and he wouldn't tell me anything more. Then he called back about 10 minutes later saying he needed a ride home. He was drunk and "not safe to be in public" and if he didn't get a ride they would arrest him. Not thinking as clearly as I might, I was just thinking if the police don't think he's safe, he's not. But if I hadn't come, he'd have been in jail, so not getting shot on the streets. I went, and talked to the officer. He'd been drinking, and was holding a backpack containing marijuana. I told him, and told the officer, that this was the first and last time I'd be picking him up, the next time he'll be hauled to jail. I informed him I'd not be going with him to court on the marijuana charge - the officer agreed that he's an "adult" and he needs to take care of this himself.
Predictably he was mad at me in the car. Why? because he has limited calling on his cell (though unlimited text) so he could only call me, not any of his friends. It of course never occurs to him to get a job and buy more minutes for his phone. I have to remember he was drunk, so even his normal "logic" wasn't working. I keep waiting for him to grow a brain and some common sense and responsibility - but it's coming VERY slowly. |

I'm sorry...it's got to be so hard to see the mistakes get bigger, the price for them get bigger and his understanding remain the same. You are doing the right thing to make him responsible!

Hoping he matures quickly here, too. Will be praying for you both. (And as a funny aside, I made this awful typo when trying to type in "grouphug". I typed "grope hug". Oops!)

Watch out for Barki, K. She wants us all to be very friendly with each other.
Those calls from the police station are hard to ignore. I bailed one out once too. If he's mad about the cell phone, I'm sure he knows as an adult, he's welcome to go buy his own with his own money on his own plan.
