Abbie tolerated her bolus!

OMG!! Miss Abbie tolerated a full 250ml bolus feed! She has never been able to do more than 20ml at a time, or she'd retch (like dry heaves). So this means that maybe..just maybe she can be taken off her feeding pump. A bolus feed..takes 2 minutes..her pump feed..is being hooked up for 12 hours. Also a bolus feed will let us feed her at normal eating times..with the rest of the family. YAY!!!

Woooo Hooooo!!!!

Does she have a nissen? I don't remember. Just wondered with the retching!

Oh to be off the pump Tucker was on 24/7 for a long time... glad I did not have to deal with that. Bolus is so EASY, of course, you know that But, I'm just really happy for you!

Woo hoo Miss Abbie. I hope she keeps it up.

250mL, that is... 8.5 ounces!!!! Instead of ONE OUNCE?!?! That is nuts.

Go Abbie Go.

Okay, you can probably tell, I'm excited for you

Wow that is amazing! I am so happy for her and you!

I have Cameron at 185 cc's over an hour, 6 times a day and I'm pretty happy we've gotten that far.

Lylac... you could bolus feed her just about 2 times a day and that would be it! Wouldn't that be fun not to have to use a pump... I hope she keeps it up.

DDW.... I'm glad to hear Cameron's progressing too, six times a day is pretty doable and you can still fit some "regular life" in there.

That is just about Tucker's schedule off his tube right now... five times a day for 30-60 minutes depending on how much he wants to torment his mommy. On the one hand, its a bummer, because if he was still tube feeding it would be five times a day for five minutes bolus with lots of time for other stuff. BUT! I'll take my difficult feeder any day... .at least he's finally eating 100% oral and I have some hope that he will eventually decide he likes it

How exciting!! I remember when we were able to switch from drip to bolus...
athikers, hang in there. Tucker will "get it".

She's still doing great. So well that we are skipping the pump all together tonight. Oh and we weaned her off her phenobarbital Thats 9 medications that we have weaned her off. When we first got her she was on 11..now only 2.

Something else has been weird. Normally she has a cold and ear infections 3 weeks out of a month. But since her tubes came out..no infections..no colds. The new ENT did say that they were the wrong ones for her..and her old ENT(1st one that she saw after coming home) said that her ears were having a reaction to the tubes. Hmmmm Can't wait til we go to Nashville..Still don't know when we'll be going yet

Wow! I so remember the day my son first took a bolus feeding. He was two years old. Previous to that time he was on a pump. We had to wean him down from 24/7. It took a long time. Reading your post brought back the feeling of elation and pride in his accomplishment. He is now six and only has two tube feedings a day. The rest of his calories he takes by mouth. He is even feeding himself an entire yogurt container! I love reading about your children.

I just have to reply to say... isn't the internet GREAT! In my real life I know one family that has a tube feeder... and its my former foster child so I don't exactly like to interact with them (not the best reunification story).

Its nice to have people around (even if its cyber around) who get what its like to have a child who doesn't eat like a regular kid.
