Why So long for contracts to be signed and children placed?
We were selected in July 2001 be be parents for 3 special needs children. They are in one state and we are in another. Why does it take so long for the contracts to be signed and the children placed in our home? The children have not even been told that a family has been selected for them and we are not allowed contact with them at this point. What can we do?

We've been waiting also...

We left the state agency last month and went with a private agency because we felt that the state was trying to sabotage this out of state placement. Basically they didn't give ICPC any info during the 5 months we stayed with them, but now our private agency has done alot this past month. We are just hoping the placement is soon. But we've thought that for 6 months.

I feel lucky
We have had an experience very different from yours. We live in VA. We are in the final stages of adopting 2 great kids, 9 and 13 from NC. First of all, I was allowed to fax my hs to the main agency in NC. They passed it on to any inquiries I wished in the state. Once we were chosen for the 2 boys. We were encouraged to meet them at the home. They then came up to visit us the following weekend. This has been followed up by another visit by me for 4 days there. They stayed with me in a hotel and did fun things together. Then their sw drove them here, a 6 hour trip so that they could spend a day and a half with us. last weekend. This week we are going to pick them up 1/2 way on Wed and they are going to spend the weekend with us again. We have to take two Sat. classes so that we can qualify for maintenance payments during placement. but then I am told they should be here for good. HOpefully for Holloween. I'm sorry you are going through such a rough time since you have chosen the kids. This is sad that the sw can't get their acts together for the kids. There are bad and good sw's out there. I am fortunate to have a great one here in Williamsburg, and the kids have one that has been superb. She has even givein me her phone # at home to keep in touch with.
