snptf book and travel club

All those missing last night chat will need to send books to Suz. She is out of interesting reading material. I think she said she did NOT like mysteries. All are welcome to post book reviews to this thread. Running out of good books when one is home schooling or just stuck at home alot with the care of others is a serious problem that needs addressing.

Traveling-Mikestock II plans are well on the way. Ohio is still missing likely due to the cold and flu season(send Jenny healthy vibes for her household). Though colorado is a lovely place to visit, those who hate winter aren't sure march is the best time. New Mexico was discussed but Lucy was NOT invited-snobs!

Oh, and room service before age 10 ruins your life and coffee is the determining factor in deciding the value of hotels(though Crick said something about Mike bringing us all starbucks every morning at Mikestock-he wasn't there to argue so .....)

And just for the record-Mrs. Red is worse at picking out hotels then me. In fact, I think my last Mikestock hotel was 2 stars up from the suite Red stayed in on her travels.

People came into chat to discuss special needs children. Sahmom tried to tell them that in chat, it's the parents who have special needs but alas, no one listened.

So again, please post your book reviews and interesting travel ideas here. Some of us need 4 vacations a year-therapy, you know.

Apparently, Amyanne is the only person who reads. That gives Suz a weeks worth of material but what will she do the following week?

Am I the only parent on traveling therapy? Hmm.

LucyJoy if you like bluegrass, go to Floyd, VA and go to the Friday night Jamboree at Floyd Country Store.

Lucy, I beleive that Suz and I invited you to Texas, well Mexico, and you even had a volunteer to drive the uh, car.

As for books, I like whatever is on sale at the used bookstore!
However some favorite authors are:
Karen Kingsbury
Ted Dekker
Dean Koontz
Randy Alcorn
Lisa Wingate (and if you like her I can get autographs cause she's my neighbor!)
Terri Blackstock
Neta Jackson

Since each of those authors wrote several books, that should cover Suz the next week.

Sorry, I buy my books at the Thrift store... At 25 cents each, I read a wide variety of authors! Here are some I remember liking.

Dean Koontz
Mark Twain
Judy Blume
Isaac Asimov
Tom Clancy
Stephen King

If you are Christian, you will love the series "The Lord God Made Them All", hilarious!

As for travel, maybe after I move we can arrange a Vegas Getaway...

I'm thinking everyone should come to OK in April. I'll have a still empty house and the cold snow won't be there. I have forbidden it to follow me!

I like to read mystery books, but I do have a bunch of smut books as well.
Have you tried any
Nora Roberts/JD Robb
Jude Deveroux

If you need some, I can probably send them so I don't have to move as many

Oh, you simply can't beat Christine Feehan
any of her books will rock your world, and they're easy to read without being dull in the least. She has a brilliant knack for being able to create a world you'd like to crawl into repeatedly.

Especially if you like vampire or paranormal type stuff....

Especially if you like your vampire stuff with a side of intense sensuality....

Okay, last night I was trying to remember a certain author for Suz, or anyone else that enjoys Christian fiction.
The author is Jane Kirkpatrick. She wrote a series of books about women coming west on a wagon train, that after a cholera break-out found themselves without their men. They have to make the choice to turn back or continue, five women alone. To quote Amazon "the beauty of this books lies in the strength of the female characters"
Book 1 - All Together in One Place
Book 2 - No Eye Can See
Book 3 - What Once We Love

Okay, I think I know what book I am getting. Sherry(?) Blair, Tony Blair's (former Prime Minister of Great Briton_ was just on The Tonight Show. She has a book just out called My Life From Liverpool to Downing Street. She seemd like a very ordinary, funny, down to earth woman with a fascinating story.

Post What I've been reading...

As the first guy to post on this thread, allow me to share some of my recent reading list:

In December, I read "Twilight" by Stphenie Meyer. The book ran circles around the movie and I'm going to start the sequel "New Moon" next month.

I've been slogging through "A Godly hero: The Life of William Jennings Bryan" by Michael Kazin for some time. Even though bryan was a fascinating figure, this book is duller than dry toast. I think I'm going to abandon it.

I have two books readt to begin, and I'm not sure which one will go first. "Henry VIII" by Alison Wier. She is a historian who specializes in Renaissance/ Tudor England and is a wonderful writier. I buy every book she publishes.

I also just recieved "Why the Dalai Lama matters" by Robert Thurman. Thurman is one of America's top Buddhist writers and is very thought-provoking. And, yes, Uma Thurman is his daughter.

I do a lot of books on tape (because I have a lot of car time!) I just finished "The Extraordinary Adventures of Alfred Kropp", by Rick Yancey. I think the audience is teen/young adult, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Think good vs. evil, in a Harry Potter/Indiana Jones/even James Bondish way. A fun "read". I see on Amazon that the author has made a series of it, but none of the others are available on "tape" yet. My jury duty book is "Variable Star" by Robert Heinlein and Spider Robinson (written from detailed notes found after Heinlein's death.) Easy to put down, but overall enjoyable.

Mike,

I just finished the entire Twilight Series. Let me tell you, Book 2 has important plot stuff, but it was my least favorite of the 4. If you feel it's lacking, don't let it stop you from reading the other two.
