It goes against all that we think we know about parenting, to parent special needs kids. You can do everything right and still have the wrong outcomes. It's a particularly difficult lesson in the principle of individual agency. You can persuade and consequence and demand and punish and still those kids will do what they want to do. I just keep telling my kids I'm trying to help them learn the things they need to be happy. And if they keep choosing negative behaviors they have only themselves to blame.

Great way to put it! I just wish that DD would see that I just want her to be happy. She sems to think that I am trying to ruin her life instead. Eeeeek!

Barksum, of course! It's just you doing it all wrong. Didn't you know that. If only you would have been a better parent these kids would be perfect. And all your friends, well they know it all and how are the kids that they are living with from foster care doing? Oh wait! They don't have special needs kids yet they still know what your going through! too funny
