OT - Wacky Weather!

Not that weather is ever...well, predictable, but this winter has been interesting! Started out warm, with a very extended fall season. Then the temp dropped like a rock and we had very cold temps. Then it finally snowed. So we had the cold and the snow, which is normal, but now we've had some odd little warm days mixed in.

We usually get rain, or snow, but not both. We've had rain last week on top of two feet of snow. We've had another foot or two of snow - hard to tell because it keeps getting condensed with rain. Now we're getting real rain (not a mix of snow and rain) again...with really warm temps.

It's in the upper 40's and the snow is melting and we're getting rain! In January! The snow level is predicted to rise up to about 7000 feet after being down around 2100 feet. So we're under a flood watch.

So, we were snowed in yesterday with major drifts, and may be flooded in tomorrow.

Anyone else having an odd weather year?

Yep! One day it's 60 degrees and sunny, then the next, it's freezing rain, then thunderstorms, then back below freezing. It's just crazy!

Sounds like you are getting some Texas weather! Freezing one day 70 the next! I swear it's making all the kids sick and you never know how to dress them from day to day.

We had over 6 ft of snow in 3 weeks. Most of it melted in 2 days, so we are now flooding. Is it spring yet?

We're still under a flood watch, too. At least it isn't flash floods, as they say the snow melt is slow enough that it is a gradual rise of the creeks and sloughs...but they want everyone to be aware. So all the places that flood every spring have already flooded. Now it's getting cooler again, so it's all freezing up. What a mess when it really thaws!!

Jess, are you in the Pacific NW? I guess the west side of WA is pretty bad.

I'm in Wa, but closer to Idaho than Seattle.

The weird part here is that we haven't had much snow at all - in CO, it's a bit expected...but nada. In the mountains (just an hour from me) they have 20+feet of snowpack at most resorts - best skiing in years...it just seems to disappear before it gets to us. I want snow - I like having a winter - I'm feeling blah!

LOL Kretz. We get more snow than the surrounding areas and we really miss it when we have a dry winter. I used to live in S. CA and I missed the seasons more than I thought I would!

Jess, we live in OR, but closer to WA/ID corner than Portland. (Shocking, I know, that OR has more area than the land west of the Cascades!! ) We constantly try to explain that Walla Walla, Lewiston, and the Tri Cities are closer to us than Portland.

It's like trying to explain that all of Wa is NOT Seattle/Tacoma area. This side of the mts is almost polar opposite in every way.

It's here - lots of snow overnight, the good wet kind and it's still coming down. I actually have to get out in it today to run some errands and I was a really nice mom today and drove the kids to the bus stop (trust me it takes more than snow for me to do that normally)!
