New to this board

Just introducing myself. I've been posting on the Guatemalan board for a couple years, but lately I've been lurking here too. My son was diagnosed as autistic; he's turning 3 years old next month, and I am navigating learning how to parent him (he's been home a little over three months) and getting him services through the school district. I do not have any prior experience with SN kids, and we did not expect this diagnosis, so I spent the first two months feeling completely inadequate and unprepared. I still feel inadequate, but at least I'm getting used to the new normal around our house.

I checked out the autism board a little, but it desn't seem very active. Anyone else here in a similar siuation?

Yeah my three year old son is autistic. If you want a more active forum try
Autism Speaks Social Network
There are over 3000 people on that website. Parents, friends, autistic people, ect. I found it to be very useful especially when my son was first diagnosed

My 11 year old was recently dx'd with Asperger's. What a shock, but it explains so much! We've had him 7 years and thought his issues were residual from RAD.

Good luck with the school. Now that we have a dx that they understand, we're getting a better reception about what he needs.

Thumbs up Welcome

Welcome DeeVee. Gosh...I remember when I was a "newbie". That was 8 kids ago. Now, I am an "oldie"...though as old as some!

I also have a son with autism. His name is M2. He is 19 years old and I adopted him just before he turned 10.

AlexzandersMom, thank you for the weblink. I am going to check that out.
