The Difference of 5 1/2 Months...
This will probably be the topic of my article next week, but it was so sweet I wanted to share it early.
As many of you remember, when Demario first arrived in late March, he was a child who was delayed in all aspects. He was a child who did not have empathy for others and who did not understand what it was like to have a family or to be a part of a family. When asked, last March, what he wanted to be when he grew up he simply shrugged. He didn't know what it meant and it didn't matter to him. What a difference a few months make. The following is an essay written yesterday during our Creative Writing time. The assignment was for the children to tell me what they wanted to be when they grew up, why, and who would be helped if they did this job. I honestly had no idea what Demario was going to come up with until he gave me his completed essay. *** When I Grow Up By Demario When I grow up to be a man I want to be a teacher. I want to teach kids to read and do math and love God just like my mom and dad teach me. It will be an important job because some kids don't think that it will help them to think or to learn. But I can help them to know that if they learn then they will find new things that they like and they can help other people and they can have a life. I want everybody to have a life and to be able to do stuff that makes them happy. But if they don't know what makes them happy then they need to learn and I can show them and they can show other kids and someday the whole world will have a life and be happy. *** -SusanC.
