We had open house, too

It was kinda neat stopping to see my old first grade teacher, who's still there and still teaching in the same room. Sorry, but I REFUSE to believe that I ever fit at one of those little desks.

Anyway, we got glowing reports from all of his teachers. His homeroom teacher even remarked "I wish I had fifteen more just like him. Then my day would be paradise." Jim has even made the finals in a school-wide art contest to design the new school logo. WOW! I can't even draw a stick man.

On the way home, I told him how proud I was of him and rewarded him with Dairy Queen.

No problems in class, and they're both working hard. The bus is a different story, but we won't go into that now!!

Hey who's in Denver????

I went "back to school" also

I always go as it helps tremendously to know the teachers and let the teachers know that I am available to work with them. I am always impressed at the great things that our school offers. Last spring I initiated an IEP meeting for my daughter as I had seen that 4th grade would be challenging. She gets some extra attention and has gotten A's and B's so far. I couldn't have asked for better results and my daughter is so proud and loves school. My son in 5th grade is learning "responsibility" this year. Sounds good to me.

how we force our parents to participate here

We have school choice with 6 public elementary schools K-4 that each have different themes (eg: math, science, etc)

Our school's theme is "traditional" They are taught values and morals with a big focus on community spirit and pride
(the way things were 50 years ago). So our school had about a 80-90% parental turnout to our back-to-school night.

However some of the other schools are not as fortunate to have involved parents so the school board decided that the first report card of the year had to be picked up by a parent from the primary teacher at a scheduled time so she could have a 5-10 minute conference with them.
This has been going on at least 3 or 4 years and has turned out great.

It's nice to have such a great school!
