Why do schools ignore their own rules?
I get a call this morning from S's principal that starts-"We don't normally do this but thought is this case we'd make and exception" WHY?!
Seems S left his back pack at home and wanted to know if someone would bring it to him. She goes on to say, "Our handbook states that we don't allow calls of this sort" Okay, then you are calling me WHY?! So, I get to be the bad guy and say NO, it's S's responsiblity to take his things to school. It's rained before, people.

No, she didn't but I'd assume it was the rain-we're getting tons of rain. But I don't see what that has to do with his back pack.

We have that also...if it's a rule then all children should have to follow it...including mine. They try to teach responsibility and then turn around and teach that rules aren't really rules - how confusing!

Well, my son knew I wouldn't bring the stuff and used his recess and study hall time to redue his homework so he wouldn't mess up his grades. He came home happy and he'll remember his bag next week.

That's great news that he applied himself to do the work! It is strange that they called you, though. I was pleased that the school called me about C's cell phone rather than just giving it back to him (I said no, he has to follow the rules!) but I do have to wonder about the teacher who was so snowed that he thought C should be the exception!

I’m impressed that he was concerned about his grade to do that.
Hopefully, it will help him to remember next time. I have one son that might would do that as he wants to make good grades and doesn’t like to loose any stars for missing homework/behavior. I have another son that not having his homework wouldn’t bother him.

I think that they want to give first offenders a 'second chance'. No realizing that if you give my kid a second chance, he'll be running the place!
I mentioned to his teacher that Q needs IMMEDIATE consquences. She told me that she would be sure to implement that. That it is usually her policy. I'm not really sure what she does though - some sort of point system. 26 is the total available. He had 26/26 3 days last week and 25/26 2 days. Still honeymooning. The district still uses green-yellow-blue-pink-white color system. The exception is blue and pink get detention, white is still the principals office along with detention. How many times should I expect detention? |
