Has anyone tried to get subsidy changed post finalization?

It has been a really long day, so I hope all of this makes sense. We finalized several months ago; A. was given his medicaid and nothing else. We were told if things changed we could come back. Well, the county EI is no longer going to be able to work with him b/c he is needing services they don't provide and we are needing to go to a rehibilitation center. We are looking at two diff. hospitals. We are basically seeing who can get him in the quickest and we are trying to verify that both will take his medicaid b/c our insurance will not cover the orthotics he will need post treatment. One of the hospitals is local the other is about an hour away. We will have to go weekly; so we are wanting to request some type of reimbursement from the county...do we have a leg to stand on??? This was our first time having adopted through fc; so we really have no clue!! Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I would hope that if they said you could revisit it that you can send in for a subsidy at this time. Best of luck to you, this is what subsidies are for.

Question

Was he Tile IV eligible (assuming that is how he qualifies for medicaid)? If so, they have specific forms for requesting a change in adoption assistance. If he was not the county usually will have a procedure for doing so but YES - you can request same - the workers may try and lead you away from doing so as it can be a tedius process requiring medical verification, doctor's evaluation as well as something in writing identifying/verifying that the services now required are not available through your current servicers (not that you just want more extensive, etc.). All of this as said can take time and seem tedius but should result in some kind of "assistance" ... word of advice - do not use the word "reimbursement" as they do not reimburse costs but they do provide assistance. Be sure and include the office/signee of any correspondence regarding his continued eligibiity/renewal for the medicaid as if he does qualify for additional assistance it may be via a separate entity/account within the programs and you don't want it cancelling the medicaid in assumption that you are requesting a change not additional assistance.

Hope this helps

We have changed our subsidies on 2 different children,

post adoption. As issues arise or become more prominent we have revised our adoption subsidy agreement. Once when our girl was 3, we got level of care subsidy instituted. Once with our boy ,now 7, when his behaviors become more pronounced & we had more documentation proving he needed more supervision, psych services, etc.
Both requests were successful in increasing our subsidies.
Good luck, we all deserve to advocate for increased funding to meet our children's needs.

our son got the insurance and daily fc rate, they told us if anything changes (since he may have been drug exposed, mom has mental illness) later on it can be revisited...
i have often wondered how we would go about it too if anything develops with him.
