One more "flying the coup"
L graduates this Friday!
His last full day of school is tomorrow. He is beaming from ear to ear. L has been talking about moving closer to his girlfriend, nearly 20 miles from me. He is not ready for independent living yet. I was looking at an apartment complex nearby, as a stepping stone to living further away. Well, I was talking to his best friend's mother this morning. His friend is a sophomore in high school, who has autism. His parents adore L. They are both police officers. I was telling her about my thoughts for L. After I hung up, I went on about my day. She called back this afternoon. She starting talking about L and what we had spoken about. Long story short, she asked if L could move in with them. They are in the process of finishing out their basement into an apartment for their son. It has nearly 800 square feet, 2 bedrooms, bathroom, and a kitchenette. They only live 5 miles from me, and the same distance to his work. I was stunned. That thought had not even crossed my mind. L was pleased. He loves spending time with his friend and he would have some level of independence. He will pay a modest rent. We spoke about it for a little bit. He called the family and said "yes". Little did I realize that he would be leaving so soon. He moves next Tuesday!

Congratulations on the Graduate, and ((hugs)) on having him move out soooo fast.
I'm glad that you both were able to find a such a great place for him to move into. That's huge, even for kids without any extraordinary life circumstances.

L should be very proud of himself!
And the living opportunity sounds like a wonderful way to learn independence a bit more safely. Hope he is able to appreciate how fortunate he is to have found this place to stay.

Congratulations, L!! And no worries, you have many years left before you get to experience empty nest syndrome.
