medicaid question

Does anybody know how to move a kid from medicaid that covers children to adult medicaid? Apparently, no one in my state can tell me this. I can't figure out where to apply for son to get medicaid coverage as an adult. He should qualify.

Guess my next option is to research the costs of his psychiatrist and meds without insurance? (Let's see, I'm not medically able to sell plasma and I'm too old to sell what I have left....hmmm)

Does he have a diagnosis of some sort. If he does he may be eligible for SSI which should include medicaid. Perhaps check with your social security office.

Did you contact your county human services department? Ours hands out the applications for medical assistance all the time. For adults, kids and families.

From my experience I would go the route of getting him qualified for SSI. And it takes awhile...so start sooner rather than later.

He can't get SSI until his adoption subsidy is gone. He can't wait the in between time from the stop of subsidy to the start of SSI to have access to his meds. SSI office did tell me that medicaid is seperate so he could still qualify for that.

I contact all the mental health agencies I could locate and they all refer me to each other.

we had the same problem

When our daughter turned 18 they told us she would change to disablility from the adoption subsidy so we extended her subsidy until we could get the disability! BIG MISTAKE! We couldn't get the disability until the subsidy stoped. No one told us that. However when we did get her on disability she automatically qualified for medicaid. It's amazing what they don't tell you.
