What are the odds of this happening?

We had to take B to school for his IEP meeting today, and afterwards we decided to stop by the Sonic and get some lunch.

They are doing some construction upgrades to it and had a work crew there. Anyways we were just sitting there waiting for our food, when this young man (maybe 19 or 20) walks up and says "Is this G?" We were like no his name is B. The boy asked if we adopted him and we said yes. He asked if he came from Georgia..we said yes. Then he said he's my nephew..my sisters boy, that the state took away from her.

The young man wasn't out of order or anything, so we told him how he was doing and also gave him a picture of B. The young man almost started crying and was in shock....so were we.

He hadn't seen him since he was a baby, but recognised him by his hair. He doesn't keep in contact with B birthmom.

The young man wasn't even from around here, and travels with his work company. I feel good that now he knows that B is ok..but big papa bear is freaking out that one day his birth family will show up at our house.

I myself ain't worried about it.

It just blew me away that this happened. I could understand if he came from our state, but B came from a different one.

Whats the odds

Wow, I'd be torn between your feelings and Daddys.

Just, wow!

Wow! I don't believe things like that just happen. And for him to recognize the child and ask? Maybe it was something this young man needed, who knows.

I wouldn't worry about bfamily showing up based on this. Tell daddy it's awesome that he cares so much and is a good protector, but to stop worrying.

I think it's really cool. I know my son's older bro wanted to know they were okay. Once he knew they were safe, he went on with his life. He came for visits we or his sisters planned but never tried to cause any trouble.
Maybe that's what this young man needed-to know his nephew was safe and had a family that loved him.

I keep waiting for this to happen to us, but it hasn't yet.

I too would be torn between anxious protectiveness, and being happy for the uncle. Strange...no matter how you slice it! I'm glad that the uncle got to see B with you and that B was happy and healthy.

Hmm. It sounds like fate. Maybe the uncle has been wondering about "B" and worrying about him and now that burden has been lifted from him. I'm glad he had a chance to see his nephew and know that he's well taken care of. I'm also glad you gave him a photo. I'm sure it's a relief for him to know that "B" is so well loved.

Good for you Lylac. I don't know that I would have handled it that well.

This is my fear. We live close to T's bio family (only about 45 minutes away) and quite honestly, I'm surprised we haven't run into them more. One time we were eating at Taco Bell (one of hubby's favorites - GROSS!!) when his bio grandparents came in. We had been having visits with them but he reacted so badly we had to stop them. He acted up after the chance meeting.

A couple of years ago we were driving him back from a weekend home pass and we stopped at McDonald's to get something to eat. Turns out one of his bio cousins worked there. T didn't recognize him, but he recognized T. Started him asking all kinds of questions, and we hustled him out.

I send the bio grandma a letter and photo every year so that she knows how she's doing and she's been satisfied with that, although would like more contact.

I hope B's uncle respects your privacy and I bet he was glad to know that B is so well loved and taken care of. We all know you're an awesome mommy!!

I would say uncle sounds like he was very appropriate and was just curious if it really was his nephew.

What are the chances?!?!

I think you are probably OK since he doesn't know where you live. He just knows what general area. Did you give him your address or name? If not you are probably fine. I don't beleive things like that just happen for no reason. I bet that this young man needed to know B was safe.

Oh what a gift that young man recieved. He has been blessed indeed. I am sure he has had many sleepless nights, wondering what ever became of his nephew and now he can turn hi sorrows to praise, knowing that God placed B in such a loving home where he can thrive.

Sounds like a God thing to me. Maybe this young man needed this closure?

God bless you guys for answering his questions and giving him a photo. I'll bet it was a really healing moment for his heart....and who knows what may have been planted in him that will bear fruit in the years to come.

Whatever ideas he may have had about adoption, seeing you all there together surely had a positive impact on him!

I hope your DH is feeling better about the whole thing now.

Tim is feeling better. I think it was the shock of it all at first. I mean afterall for some reason he felt that his baby boy was in danger. And him as a dad felt threatened in some way.

After he had time to think about it, he said if he was the young man, he would have done the same thing.

he did say that we are staying clear of the Sonic til they are finished remodeling

I believe things happen for a reason. That is amazing that he recognized him. Hopefully he has some peace now that he knows how happy and loved B is.
