Med. Vistaril
Hi,
I’m looking for anyone that has had any experience with the medicine Vistaril. My son has ADHD and has been having some issues lately. He is currently taking 30 mg of Adderall with another small dose in the afternoon/evening to help with homework etc… The Adderall definitely helps some but I was thinking that a small dose of an additional med. might help some of his behaviors. Maybe something like Risperdal or Clonidine. And if not, maybe we would look at changing the Adderall. (He's already been on Ritalin and Concerta in the past) Anyway, my mom had to take him to his appt. for me yesterday and apparently the Dr. changed his Adderall to 20 mg, twice a day eliminated the afternoon dose of Adderall and added Vistaril 50 Mg. I am looking for feedback from anyone who knows about or has had any experience with Vistaril? I am planning on calling the Dr. and I will look it up on-line as well, but thought some of you may be familiar with it as well.

Okay, I have a little more info.
The Vistaril is a medicine to help E to sleep better. Apparently when the Dr. asked him why he had been misbehaving the way he had, he told her that he hadn’t been sleeping well or getting enough sleep and that his behavior was revenge. Of course, he denies that he said that, but anyway I will be sure that he will be getting plenty of more sleep. She increased his Adderall to 40 mg (two 20 mg pills to be taken together in the morning). I guess increasing the Adderall may be the best option as it definitely helps but he just needs something more than he was getting. Does that sound like a lot or too much in terms of dosage? He probably only weighs 80 lbs. but he does have severe ADHD. (He will also continue to take a small dose in the afternoon for homework, she just forgot to write that prescription yesterday)

The nice thing about the Vistaril is that it sort of "calms the brain" without causing a lot of sedation. It also helps the person go to sleep & stay asleep, esp. for those with insomnia or early morning wakenings (as in depression)
I don't have experience with Adderall, though.
