Wow...this all sounds like a nightmare... and to think that I was worried about just having to deal with the minor fact that if we ever traveled out of country together with our son we would have to explain why his parents could be a totally different race from the child and still be listed on his birth certificate!

I have L's original and her new one, they both have different numbers.

We just got B's new birth cert last week. I also have a copy of his original. The numbers are different on each one.

With Baby A, they (KY) are giving us her original birth cert, and we'll get a new one, once we finalize

Just a funny aside...I have taken my now 10 year old daughter on a couple mission trips to Mexico, she is Hispanic and I am clearly not. On the first trip back over the border the guard asked some of us where we were born, including her. She was born in New Mexico.. but said very quietly (new), and then loudly, MEXICO. Yes, sitting in a car full of white folks. Luckily the guard was in a good mood as all I had was a birth certificate on that trip. I went and got her a state ID, with a photo, as soon as we got back.

thanks

thanks for all the suggestios....we went to the post office this time (instead of the county clerk) and left R's original birthname off the application. The only funny thing was he first asked for "documentation showing I was R's guardian", I gave him the birth certificate. I don't think he even looked at it - so he asked me the same question again.....this time I pointed at our names on the birth certificate.....

now hopefully it will sail on through and get approved. One thing I figured out in therapy was as an adult, the holidays haven't been good times for me - not only was I away from my family but it isn't healthy to be around them so how could I go home anyway. We visit with DH's family at Tgiving. So, the plan was to go somewhere south and sunny for Christmas, create some new family fun memories. This year it's the Caribbean - probably have to settle for Florida after this!
