Do your kids have some favorite books?

I think we've had threads about this in the past, but would be interested in any books (whatever level) your kids really enjoyed.

Here's some of our favorites:

Picture Books:
Going to Sleep On The Farm, by Wendy Cheye Lewison

Owl Babies, by Martin Waddell

Puppies Are Like That, by Jan Pfloog

Cookie's Week, by Cindy Ward

anything by Richard Scarry or Sandra Boynton

Hank The Cowdog series, by John Erickson
Some fairy books whose titles I can't recall published by Disney; chapter books, not picture books.
The Cat Who... series by Lillian J. Braun
Eragon, and Eldest, by Christopher Paolini

All my kids have loved "The Kissing Hand".

We like anything by Shel Silverstein.

Shorty likes anything with a Disney princess, or any old princess in it.

T was all over The Magic School Bus books. Scientific kid.

Q was obsessed with the Green Eggs N Ham for about a year. It started when he was they only kid in his summer school class that could read.

As much as he likes reading, he just doesn't have the attention span to read even the shortest books.

He does love Halloween theme books! We have 2 pop up ones, that he still reads - over and over and over!

We love anything by Bonyton too. In fact, I've considered doing a mural in H and Ms room of her art.

J likes the Captain Underpants series and DH reads him Harry Potter. He's also very into all books about animals.

We also like David Shannon books. H is in love with Alice the Fairy right now.

We have 2 all time favorite bedtime books. One is Mama Says Goodnight and the other is No Matter What.

We have tons of books here. Far too many to go into all their favs. I swear we could open a library in our living room.

Let's see... oldest is avid reader and has been since he learned to read in first grade..
So, early on he loved the Magic Tree Houe Books
then moved on the the Droon series
He is still a Harry Potter fan, started reading those in 2nd grade. He has read Eragon and is almost done with Eldest now and is loving that... He enjoyed the Charlie Bone series, and now sister (same grade, but substantially lower reading level) is enjoying the first of those.
Oh, I almost forgot, he has also read all the Series of Unfortunate Events books...
And when he was younger loved the Spiderwicke series.

for younger kids we have all loved There's a Monster at the End of This Book. My personal favorite bedtime story for little ones is Time For Bed (time for bed little calf, little calf, What happened today that made you laugh..... etc).
At any age my kids all love to hear me read "I'll Love You Forever".
It is so hard to pick favorites as my kids have hundreds of books!

FYI - did you guys know Paolini published Eragon when he was only 17?

Also - if your kids are enjoying Paolini, get them the Belgariad series by David Eddings....

I have to add to Amy's Dr. Seuss List "The Lorax", "The Butter Battle Book", "Did I ever Tell you How Lucky You Are"and "The Places You'll Go" were my boys favorites.

For younger kiddos mine loved the Curious George Books. The Good Dog Carl(or maybe Karl?) books are really great for toddler imaginations only pictures and then at the end it says "Good Dog Carl". "Goodnight Moon" has been read to each of my chldren for at least the 1st 2 years of their lives almost everynight (E still requests it once in a while). I also have to agree with Mrs. Red on "I'll Love You Forever" (one of my favorites). I almost forgot the "If you give a Mouse......" books, funny and entertaining for mom as well as the kids.

For Elementary starting to read books my boys loved "Click, Clack Moo" and "Click Clack Quack" (I think those are the titles), The Frog and Toad Books, I'm forgetting most of them now. Chapter Books Junie B. Jones, Magic Tree House and my youngest loves "Bunnicula". And even though I think "Captain Underpants" are disgusting potty humor, my 2 oldest really learned to read and to enjoy reading with that series.

Older boys have enjoyed "Harry Potter", Chronicles of Narnia, Dragon Rider and my oldest has LOVED "The Artemus Fowl" Series. My middle son is reading some sports novels about kids on basketball teams and baseball teams by Mike Lupica. My oldest also enjoyed "To Kill a Mockingbird" (how on earth did I get old enough, to have a kid old enough to read that?)

We LOVE books here but it's early and I can't think of anymore

Sigh, my son is as avid a non-reader as I am a reader, so if I asked for any favorites, the reply would have been "I HATE books!" However, before he became glued to "his music" in the car, I had great success with books on tape, from the library. Some favorites that I can recall are the Madeleine l'Engle Wrinkle in TimeTrilogy, The Lord of the Rings (we listened before going to each movie), Will Hobbs' adventure stories, and - I'm going to have to check Amazon for the name of this - Wish You Well, by David Baldacci. I can't recommend this one highly enough - it starts off with a tragedy, but then is heartwarming and wonderful. (yes, this is the same guy who writes the thrillers - but this is not a thriller.) And of course Harry Potter - also on tape. I also sneaked in a classic or two: Tom Sawyer is my all-time favorite ("Tom! You, Tom!"), Robinson Crusoe, even Last of the Mohicans. And, when he was forced to read when younger, he loved the Captain Underpants books.

A will read ANYTHING she can get her hands on... Fiction/non-ficton it doesn't matter... However, we have really enjoyed
Diary of a Wombat
Don't let the Pigeon Drive the Bus (the whole series)
Skippyjon Jones (both books)
Underwear!
All the "Illustrated Classics" the non-scary ones
All the Dr. Suess type books

We're currently reading Pippi Longstocking and she is very annoyed that I keep saying that Pippi keeps a *horse* on the porch...she insists it's really a dog and refuses to believe me that it's really a horse, really on the porch, really eating oats out of a soup bowl...
She's gets VERY insistant that it is NOT a horse. I even showed her the sentence so she'd know I wasn't reading it wrong to trick her....but she refuses to be "tricked" into thinking it's a horse...no matter what I say she won't believe me. It's funny what a little realist she is.

ROFL Aspen!

I forgot to mention The Borrowers books, by Mary Norton (I think), and The Happy Hollisters, and The Boxcar Children. Oh, and then there's The Railway Children, The Chronicles of Narnia...well, we could go on forever here! LOL

And Jenny, we DO have a library. Dh had to fix up a room for all the books as we don't have room in the main part of our house for all the books. We also have an extensive video library as well, that takes up a hunk of space. Dh is a video buff, and I'm a bibliophile. Who knew?!

I forgot Good night Moon. A few years ago, HBO had a Good Night Moon special. Susan Saradon read Goodnight Moon and the pages were on the TV, then There's a Monster in my Closet. He loved it on TV and loves the books.

I wanted to get the DVD, but HBO wanted a small fortune for a 30-40 minute thing. But it was great. Readings of kids books, pages of the books on the screen, it wasn't like watching TV but like reading a GIANT book. Susan Sarandon, and a couple of other celebrities reading the books, with kids talking about stories and such in between. My son is 7 and would probably still love it!
