You know your outta shape when...

Annie the CPR dummy can kick your butt!!

I woke up with rug burn on my knees. My hands hurt, my back hurts, my arms hurt, and I didn't even know I had butt muscles back there anymore. HELLO they have just been woke up from their years of slumber.

I wonder if DCS will pay for absorbine jr or ben gay

The class lasted over 9 hours. All of that time was spent on the floor cept for testing & some of the first aid.

And then my baby dummy was already dead when they gave her to me, and I almost blew some blood vessels in my head, working on her, only to find out that it was BROKE.

I'm SO glad we only have to do this once a year..and thats even too much.

(((scooping myself off of the floor, trying to regain composure))) I know the feeling. I am an EMT and our training just about gives me a coronary! The dummies are always missing arms, or have something broken- you just cant help but laugh and think that if this was a real situation, not breathing would be the least of their problems!
CPR in the real world is not nearly the same- but not too many people volunteer to be the "dummies" for that training exercises and hopefully you will NEVER need to use the skills you learn!

Eeks! My certification has lapsed. Guess I get to do it again huh?

Well I feel you on the muscle issues. We built a playground for a small private school yesterday. I didn't know I had the muscles that are sore today.

My sis told me today that a guy pulled in to the dock doors of her ER, and collasped. Everyone ran out to see about him w/out any precautions. They kept asking her what should they do. She said first thing is ya'll need to get some gloves

The guy had been beaten severely and his head was split open from his forehead to back of his neck. She said that he said, I just want to inform you that I am HIV pos..then passed out.

If it's one thing that I took from the class is ALWAYS protect yourself first.

we were drilled, BSI ( Body Substance Isolation) or you go to EMT hell... better you completely walk away before allowing yourself or your patient to ever come in contact with anything dangerous- outside (environmental) or inside (body substances). Its BSI, then Scene Safety, then patient care.
No matter how well you know them, its just not worth it. Not to mention, they may sue you for putting them in harms way by not protecting THEM from you! ( as unreal and unfair as that might seem, they would most likely win)

NINE HOURS of CPR class???? My hubby is an EMT and CPR trainer and he's never done a class that long.

Like Emma said, BSI is a big thing. My hubby accidently got stuck with a needle once and it was a scary thing, even though it was on a 80 something year old woman.

Sorry you're hurting today. Plant your sore tushy on a nice cushiony surface today.
