Oh - this roller coaster is making me quesy!!!!

After not hearing from our social worker today as promised, I called her to find out what she had learned about the 8 yr old twins we have been waiting to learn more about. She said she was purposely holding off on that because she found out late yesterday that we have a chance on a 9 month old healthy girl! She has been in the same foster home since birth. The foster family has not wanted to adopt her but they (CPS) have to give the foster mom a last chance to adopt before they place. Apparently, the foster is mom is elderly - I don't know what that means (how CPS defines elderly) but they said they didn't think she would want to adopt the child because of her age. The baby is healthy, but the foster family is hispanic and speaks no English. So at 9 months old, the baby knows no English. I don't remember what Caleb was able to say at 9 months, but he understood a lot. So I suppose we could muddle through the language barrier - happily so if it means we get a healthy little girl like this! We have to wait until MONDAY to find out if the foster mom will adopt the baby - again, the social worker said she has not wanted to in the past, but you have to give her that last chance.... So - is Monday one or two YEARS away???!!!!! Wow - it is going to be a VERY LONG 6 days!

Hardly sane,
Lara

Gosh, Lara, I'm in the car in front of you!

Lara, I feel your pain! I've supposedly been approved to adopt a sibling pair, but I've been waiting almost a week to hear back from the kids SW since I read the file. I'm normally very patient, but no kidding I can't get anything done at work or at home, and I'm starting to think I may just die if I don't hear soon. Is it possible to die of anxiety? A bad sign is that Susan's story makes me feel calmer...at least Demario managed to make it through to placement! Good luck with the baby. -Lynn

Whoaaaa!!!!! Hold On Everybody...

Lara, I too feel your pain! We got a call yesterday from a sw regarding a sib group that we had sent our hs in on. She said that she was VERY interested in us, BUT she would not be making a decision about which families would be chosen for committee for about another 7 or 8 weeks (translation: Christmas will probably come and go before I get back with you). Anyway, GOOD LUCK with the baby, and yes, Monday WILL get here!

GREAT SOCIAL WORKER

We have the best social worker EVER (I know there are some out there who would argue that because their's are the best!). AND she has been doing this a good while and is/was the director of the Houston Adopt 2000 program so she has lots of contacts at CPS. She has a number of really good friends there that will call her when they need to place children. I have been told that our agency is typically given the younger children - that basically each agency has thier own area of "specialty." I don't know if that is true as I heard it from another adoptive parent - not the agency. But our social worker likes us alot so that helps tremendously, I know. Then, the really key factor is that Texas is really pushing for quicker termination/adoptions for children in the system to make them more "adoptable." Since we became homestudy approved in January, we have had six referrals. We know we are lucky and that some people wait longer. But there have been parents that have placed months ago that were in the same PRIDE classes we were in so it boils down to what you can accept and timing!

Good luck!

Lara
