New here
Hi, I am Joede and am new to this part of the boards. I had previously been here with a desire to adopt internationally for a child, but have decided we would go with a domestic adoption. We are also desiring to adopt a special needs child.
We have 4 children and our oldest (our daugther) is special needs (Down Syndrome) and I desperately want to adopt a child with Down Syndrome. I have no idea how to get my name out there to let hospitals and christian groups and pregnancy centers know that I am the person to call if they have a special needs child born that the mother wishes to give to a loving home. Do you have any suggestions? I know that is a lot to say with an introduction and I apologize, but you know how it is when you are ready...you are ready and want to get the ball rolling. So I will be the one to throw out the game ball.

I would start by contacting your state agency, or local social services. You could easily adopt an older child with Downs, for little or not cost.
If you need to know who the contact agency is in your state, let me know. I have a list of all of them.

Joede,
Some of the private agency's in our state have adoptions with special needs kids. You might want to check yours. We were told that placement was quick. Good luck in your search... Becky |

Spence Chapin in New York has a special needs program, and also there is also a database of parents willing to adopt special needs children called Chask, they are not an agency though, Just a way to connect adoptive parents with parents who are not sure they can raise a special needs child. YOu can finid either one through a search. I was just holding a sweet six month old downs baby in my son's orphanage. I so would have liked to have taken her with me.

Hi Mommyto3, I sent you a PM of the places that we'd found who help people find children with Down Syndrome and other special needs.
As Zebra said, "Welcome!" (and it IS crazy on this board!)
