Does amount of income affect amount of subsidy?

Although we are not rich, my husband does make a pretty good income. We can handle the additional expense of the children, but are concerned about having money to put away for their future, i.e. college, etc. Would we still be able to receive a subsidy?

Maybe you could call your state dept. in charge of adoptions They should also have the information you are looking for. Hope this helps.

In Texas....

In Texas, subsidies are based on the needs of the child - NOT the financial capabilities of the parents. Your household income is not asked.

Good luck to you!

I think it's the same for everyone

I hope this helped.

Income/Subsidy

In CA they recently settled a case about a year and a half ago. Although the laws were there, some counties were taking it upon themselves to intepetate them different & the counties were doing an "income mean" test. This has now been settled in court & the county agencies received an "ACL" or ALL County Letter which tells them what the policy is & how the payment is to be based on the foster care rates & the child's needs & not to be determined based on your income. However, while the basic foster care rate is the same throughout the state for state foster care rates, the special needs rates vary very considerably among the counties in CA. Alot depends on the county where they were in foster care prior to adoption.

Hope this helps.

Here's what we were told:

(Ha! Like THAT will ever happen. Do you KNOW how much big diapers cost!? Ack.) Now HOW they'd know what we use since we don't have to itemize, I don't know, but we use our subsidy for the little things like diapers, clothes and food anyway, so it's a moot point for us.
