First Day of School! (long)

Today was Q's first day of school. I tried talking with him about school tody. He just told me he had a green day and school was ok. He was really into his V.Smile today.

When it was time for bed, I laid on the floor beside him and said, "C'mon, let's talk about school". I haven't seen him so excited in a long time. He LOVED school today. He was so proud of himself - "mom, I used my seat, BUT, I did't play with it" "Mrs. Shanyhan (Shanahan) got 1 yes ma'am, BUT I saw Mrs. Woyshner and lots of yes ma'am's for her" He told me about reading books, what the specials schedule is, he even knew what his dance schedule is. He kept saying, "mom, let's talk". He told me about the book they read at school.

These are HUGE things for him. He usually doesn't have the attention span to listen close enough to a story to retell it. And it's amazing that he knows his schedule already - it was only 1 day!

And he ATE! He's really a grazer. But he ate breakfast of cereal with grandma before school, ate a muffin, milk & juice at breakfast in school, ate the meat from his sandwich, a baggie full of carrots w/ ranch dip, cookies and some apple chips with juice for lunch, ate 2 bowls of cereal with grandma for a snack after school. Dinner was a little lite - we went to Subway, he ate pickles, cucumbers, onions and lettuce from his sub, a bag of chips and 1/2 a drink. That's more than he ususally eats in a weekend!

He'll have the sub afterschool tomorrow, because he starts ballet tomorrow evening. He's finally warmed up the that idea. He kept warning me - MOM, NO BALLET!! I finally found out why - MOM, I AM NOT WEARING A DRESS!! But his kind of excited. He had his tap class on Tuesday. It's him and another boy in the class. He really enjoyed getting back into dance.

We also have SABAH here. I'm not sure if they have it everywhere. It's Skating Association for the Blind and Handicapped. I may try to get him into that program. It's really not that expensive, but I just don't have the money handy. I can't seem to get ahold of them to see if I have make payments on the fee.

So sorry to be so long, I'm so proud of my boy and so excited for him. I hope he continues on this path, and that we don't need to mess with his med dosing for a long time.

sounds like Q hat a great day. Tomorrow, well actualy in less than 9 hours O & R start school. I am of course the nervous mom about it, while they're both sound asleep I have the last minute jitters for them. Hoping their day goes as smooth as Q's.

Q has another GREEN day today! His teacher sent me a note stating that he had 2 GREEN days not only was she very proud of him, but he was proud of himself.

Today was his first day of ballet. My niece picked him up and met me at the studio. When I got there he told me hated ballet. I put his slippers on and told him to get out there. After about 10 minutes, he came rushing over all excited - mom, you were right, I like ballet, I like it mom. By time the class was 1/2 over - he was telling me he LOVED it!

And, did you catch that - MOM, YOU WERE RIGHT! I'll probably never hear that again!

I'm so excited for Q and you on his excitement for school and all his dance classes! He is growing up so fast!

I have a friend whom's son over the course of a few years went blind and deaf. He has done much with his life while growing up, he even drove and raised a team of stears, down hill skies and a couple years back at 17 killed a black bear! So anything is possible for our kids!

Q's teacher last year had a color chart system for behavior. Q insisted that he have one at summer school, and made it himself.

This year, the entire school has instituted this color card system. He had 2 green days-great days, and 1 blue day-in room time out to reflect. THe blue day was for something minor, which is awesome.

He had a pretty good weekend. I am nervous that this is a 'honeymoon' period for school. But, I'm gonna take what I can get.

I hope everyone's else is having a good start to school.
