Bad news prevails

Latest news on my mom is that she "doesn't have long" - our guess is less than 6 months. Really, at this point, 2 weeks would be blessing. Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) is a real meanie and the suffering is great. She may have to move in with us (with her husband), which will change our adoption ability greatly.

My thoughts are prayers are with everyone going through these difficult times in the midst of adoption quests. The circle of life....

Lara

There is help

We live in Indiana and have what they call area 5. It is a gov. program providing home care to the elderly. You local hospital can help you. The people can be evaluated privately and then a doctor order the services. Someone comes to give my mom a bath twice a week and I get 30 hours of respite to do what I want. It gives us time to do things with the kids. Those of us that keep kids know how to access help for them, and don't always know how to get help for the elderly. Also if they have to go into the hospital, they must stay 3 days to be eligible for 20 days of free nursing home care if that care is necessary. You can appeal the descision of a doctor if he wants to dismiss the person early. I did not know these things ahead of time. You live and learn.

What if she isn't elderly?

Mom is only 59 so she is in that awful no man's land where she can't get medicare until she has been classified as disabled for at least 2 years. In the meantime her life insurance is $400 a month. But I won't go into this here - everyone has dealt with this on some level, I know.

THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!

Indiana

Where in Indiana do you live? I live in Ft. Wayne. I was just praying about getting some help for our dear friend, who is currently in a nursing home. I would love to bring here back home but I know I cant take care of her alone. I previously did this for three years and it is back breaking! please email me at scooter@christiantextiles.com... I have other questions that I have been wanting to ask you privately about..
