Lutheran Social Services???

Has anyone had experience working with Lutheran for foster/adopt? We are currently with a local county who has drug us through the ringer; we are done with them; we said we were done with foster/adopt, but I feel the need to keep going at this pt. So anyway, we scheduled an appt for a cw with LSS to come out to our house and go over their program. We have two reasons why they stood out to us. First, if we move, military, then they are all over the US. Second, if this foster/adopt does not work out we could switch over to their infant program. Thanks!!

Shy Bear, what state are you in?

I know one of the workers with LSS here in WI got trained by Keck to do intensives. I don't have a lot of experience with them, but what I have seen is good.

We are in CO. Through us filing our complaint and doing some research we have found the homestudy was not done properly, our file was never completed so we have thought and been told that we have been official since May 1; in reality we have never been able to accpet a placment. Another county called on our behalf and she was told we were a nice family but we were not open to drug exposure or alcohol exposure so they felt we would never get a plaement!!! I was fuming; we are open to drug exposure. We are not open to a child who has a diagnosis of FAS. Why they did not know this; the adoption checklist was one of the pieces missing from our file.

Sorry to go on and on!!!

I wonder what is really in my file. At one point when I switched from home study worker to placement worker the placement worker called to verify I really would accept kids who had been ritually abused like in a cult. That's out of my league and I never said that. When I had that problem of the match mix up I asked about my profile and she got kinda strange. I'd like to see my home study because there have been too many other mixups and I don't have confidence in it's accuracy. On the other hand I don't want to get on her bad side.

Lutheran Social Services did my homestudy and they taught the PS-MAPP classes for my foster license. I thought it was a great experience... they were awesome to work with and very helpful.

how strange... I can't imagine not being able to see my homestudy. In fact, any time there was even a minor change to mine, I had to sign off on it. This was through Lutheran Adoption Services, though, so maybe it's different with foster-adopt?
Also, even within an organization (public and private both), it seems like quality can vary greatly between different offices or branches and even between different workers. Feeling as if your case is not being handled properly is such a horrible, helpless feeling .
Good luck!

I have been with LSSin Illinois for over ten years. They have been great to work with, although I think part of that is the case worker that we have had the entire time. We have had 5 children placed from them. We have adopted 1, gaurdian to 1 and in the process of adopting another 1. All the children have had moderate to severe special needs. Good luck and God bless.

We're with LSS (of the South). So far, we really like them. Like everyone, they're very busy, so some communication can be slow, but anytime we've really needed something we just go into the office, and problem solved.
