Adopt From Nevada Anyone?
Hi folks. We have been studied and ready for awhile and we are now looking at a sib group from Nevada. We are having a much better experience this time then last time we inquired to Nevada it was horrible, the worker ended up telling me she wouldn't send a colored kid to Wisconsin was why we were disqualified. Anyone else dealt with adopting from them before? I would love to hear your stories. Post here for anyone that has experience there.

We are in the process now, and live in Reno. So far it has been pretty good, but we are in the middle, so I can't really say how it will end. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

Hi,
I applied for brothers K & K from Nevada two years ago. I wasn't chosen, eventually forgot about them. A year or so later, they re-appeared on the photolistings. I applied for them right away, the recruiter sounded really positive...........and...........NOTHING. I kept calling back to get updates, I think they were waiting for FAE/S testing results on the boys. I kept calling every few weeks to get an update, never got the worker's name from the guy recruiter, but he kept telling me she'd be contacting me "soon".........................and a YEAR passed. I never got anywhere. It's sooooooo sad, the boys look like babies in their photos and they're preschoolers now. I hope your luck is a lot better than mine. Sandy PS - As for the transracial family issues, be prepared with answers to how you'll keep your kids connected with their culture. African American art, books, movies, etc. in the home. Attending AA cultural events such as Juneteenth. Joining a transracial adoption group such as Harambee. Giving racial makeup numbers in their future school and your community. PM me if you need help with it.

Adopting from Nevada
Hi,
We adopted our daughter in 2000,when we lived in Nevada. It wasn't difficult, and our worker was very pleasant and professional. Would adopt from them again. I don't know how it would be to try to adopt from Nevada if you live out of state.Elizabeth. |

Hi Shelly,
Julie from Madison WI again, commenting on an old post you made. I used to live in NJ and when I told a coworker that I was moving to WI, they said Oh, isn't that where the KKK is? People see one little news segment then think the whole state is like that. (there was once a KKK rally in Janesville.... like every state doesn't have them from time to time, it's that 'freedom of speech' right, even though the most of us sure don't agree!!!) Sounds like the Nevada social worker was someone who says they want to help race relations, yet they are stereotyping an entire state, give me a break. I live in a racially diverse neighborhood & my kids (black/hispanic & asian) go to a school that's about 45% white, and life is good here in Madison WI! Speaking of race relations... I recommend the new movie "Freedom Writers" to anyone interested in the subject of race relations. What a great movie! You can see a trailer of the movie on the internet, just do a google search. Toodles. |
